Chinese diver and OMEGA brand ambassador Qiu Bo knew that as the reigning world champion there were enormous expectations on him at the London 2012 Olympic Games and he nearly lived up to the pre-Games hype by claiming a silver medal in the 10-meter platform event. He was edged out in the finals by American David Boudia and narrowly defeated home favorite Tom Daley.
Qiu Bo visited the OMEGA House in London on Sunday to relax and speak about his experience at the Games. “It was incredible,” he said. “I've had the opportunity to dive at a number of major events but nothing can compare to an Olympic Games. The venues were great, the spectators were enthusiastic and I was competing with the best divers in the world. It's a great feeling to come away with a silver medal but I was a disappointed not to win gold. But I have to say that David Boudia and Tom Daley were worthy medalists.”
The young diver had already proven himself on the international stage with gold medals in the 3- and 10-meter events at the Singapore 2012 Youth Olympic Games and with two gold medals in the platforms at the World Aquatics Championships the following year.
At 19, Qiu Bo is well positioned to dominate international diving competitions for years to come.
